If you’re looking to add dimension and character to an otherwise plain room, nothing beats the traditional look of a coffered ceiling.  Coffered ceilings are an architectural detail that comes in many varieties. Technically speaking, it’s a series of recessed panels in a ceiling in the shape of squares or rectangles.

The earliest known examples date back to the stone ceiling tombs of the Etruscans in 7thcentury BC, and during the Renaissance they were popular in France when made out of wood beams. Here are some more current versions of coffered ceilings in beautiful Sandy Spring Builders’ homes.
