Meet the Team

Sandy Spring Builders is the shared vision of Richard Mandell, Phil Leibovitz, and Mimi Brodsky Kress - three talented and experienced individuals who work personally with each client. We are a true custom home builder, and we pride ourselves on the personal service that we are able to offer our clients. From the involvement of the three principals to the dedicated team of professionals that work for us, we try to make each homebuilding project a unique experience for the client. This is what sets us apart from the competition.

 

Phil Leibovitz, Chief Executive Officer

Phil has more than thirty years of experience in the residential home and development business. He has developed  over 1,500 lots and built over 1,000 homes. He has been a partner in Sandy Spring Builders since 1998, and is responsible for their business development, land acquisition, and sales. Prior to joining Sandy Spring, Phil was a partner in Kenwood Homes and Springbrook Builders from 1990-1998 and Marsam Inc. from 1977 thru 1990 building homes and developing land in Maryland and Virginia. He received his BS Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Business Management and Construction Studies. Phil has been on the board of Washington Hebrew Congregation, The McLean School and The Bethesda Big Train, of which he is one of the founding Members.

 

Mimi Brodsky Kress, Chief Operating Officer

Mimi has been a partner in Sandy Spring Builders since 1998, and is responsible for the company’s business and administrative management. Prior to becoming a partner in Sandy Spring, she was a partner in Kenwood Homes and Springbrook Builders from 1990 to 1998, building over 500 homes in Maryland and Virginia. In 1980, she joined her family-owned construction business, building and developing light industrial projects in Montgomery, Frederick, and Prince George’s counties. She has served on the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Commercial Builders Council and the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA) Board of Directors. She holds a BA degree from Colby College.

 

Richard Mandell, Executive Vice President

Over the past 30+ years, Richard has built more than 300 custom homes for individuals in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. He founded Sandy Spring Builders in 1982, and Richard is known for his attention to detail, and he most enjoys working with clients during the construction process. The Mandell name is known throughout the area for homes with exceptional details and unique features. He has incredible patience and enjoys sitting with clients to help them make the selections for finishes that will make their home special.

 

Robert Banner, Executive Vice President

Bob serves as the VP of Sales and Marketing, and became a partner of the company in 2010. Bob has been a principal for 30 years at BNR Companies, which provides services in real estate consulting, marketing, brokerage, property management, leasing and investments. Primary focus since 1993 has been residential construction and development in the Washington, DC area. He was born in Washington, DC and resides in Bethesda, Md.

 

Jeff Lastner, Executive Vice President of Construction

Jeff serves as the head of construction operations. He has been involved in Northern Virginia and Maryland construction the past 40 years. Jeff served as the Vice President of Construction for Renaissance Housing Corporation (now WCI Communities) from 1984 through 2009, where he oversaw traditional homebuilding construction. Jeff joined Sandy Spring Builders in 2010.

 

Eric Ross, Executive Vice President Sales

Eric serves as the administrative officer for sales and operations of Sandy Spring Builders. He has over 20 years of real estate development, finance and capital markets experience. Eric co-founded Gary Lee Development, a residential development and investment firm and oversaw a ten-project development pipeline. From 1997-2002 Eric was a Managing Director of Capital Markets / Investment Banking at Arthur Andersen LLP where he raised debt/equity capital, executed M&A assignments, and provided strategic advisory services to private & public real estate companies. Prior to that, Eric was Senior Vice President for NHP Incorporated and responsible for asset management, workout/restructuring and transaction solutions for a 135,000 unit multifamily portfolio. Eric joined Sandy Spring Builders in October of 2008.

 

Adam GoozhAdam Goozh, Chief Executive Officer - Renovations

Adam Goozh is a Georgetown University Law Center graduate, who had been a successful executive in the corporate world for twelve years.  With an expertise in process development and management and a focus that has spanned from real estate development to technology, Adam brings to the construction industry an attention to detail and service that is unrivaled.  Adam has been able to instill in the Sandy Spring Builders Renovations division, a process that provide SSB Renovation clients with levels of financial and quality control that cannot be matched.
