This spectacular home won the Gold Award for Custom Contemporary Home and also the Judges’ Choice Award for Best Outdoor Living from the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA). Our clients wanted a contemporary home that would have an interesting mix of materials. With a stunning elevation of precision-cut stone, composite metal panels, stucco and large glass, the cantilevered front entrance invites you into this modern masterpiece. Highlights of this home include a precast concrete panel wall spanning three floors, open riser wood and metal stairs and railings, flat roof with interior gutters, and extremely large-span glass throughout. The rear exterior living space compliments the interior first floor plan, complete with disappearing screens, a waterfall edge spa, and contemporary-designed landscape/hardscape package.

This home’s floor plan is quite unique in that it is a split-level designed to work with the grade of the lot. There are actually 5 floors in this house. The owners suite has a striking corner fireplace opposite the bed, a bathroom with a mix of earth-tone stone, tile and wood, and of course there’s the putting green off the Master Bedroom roof deck– definitely a feature that many would want, but few actually have.

Featured Neighborhood | Edgemoor

Our featured home is located in the Edgemoor neighborhood of Bethesda, just west of downtown Bethesda. It is within walking distance of the restaurants and shops of Bethesda Row and surrounds, and offers a short commute to downtown Washington and Northern Virginia. The Bethesda Metro station is close by, and a bustling social life is available through the Edgemoor Club, a private swim and tennis club, and the Edgemoor Citizens Association, which sponsors events throughout the year. Edgemoor was established in the early 1900s and has always drawn its identity from its proximity to downtown Bethesda, according to the Edgemoor Citizens Association. It wasn’t until the past decade or so, when downtown Bethesda grew into the bustling center of commerce and nightlife that it is today, that the neighborhood acquired its “panache”. Sandy Spring Builders has had the unique distinction of building more new homes and renovations than any other builder in this neighborhood, with several under construction and a few recently started, as well as others in the planning phase. And we are proud sponsors of the Edgemoor 5K race and the local Central Farm Markets (Sundays at Bethesda Elementary School).
