When we built this home for an empty-nester couple, they wanted it to be there forever home. They wanted the home to fit a modern lifestyle and still maintain a traditional feeling – a place where their grown children and the grandchildren could enjoy family gatherings, and also perfect for sophisticated entertaining. The white clapboard exterior with black shutters and prominent portico, along with the centered dormer and white picket fence, all honor the traditions of a historic era and provide a feeling of timelessness. There is extensive cornice detailing on the outside, and the interior painted trim is exquisitely detailed throughout. Some of our favorite features from the home are the stunning cabinetry in the dining room (note the fun hardware); the abundant kitchen seating in the breakfast nook and at the large island; details in the Family Room coffered ceiling; cozy window seat at the stair landing; and the fun “bunk room” for the grandkids. And although this home was finished seven years ago, it’s still one that we love to show prospective clients who want to have a traditionally elegant home.

Battery Park

Battery Park was developed shortly after World War I by a retired Army major and general. The neighborhood was advertised in military journals to attract service members and veterans. Composed of roughly 200 homes, Battery Park still retains its sense of character and charm. And best of all the proximity to downtown Bethesda allows residents an easy walk to the best restaurants and shops. They have a small neighborhood clubhouse for community events or private rentals. Bordered by Old Georgetown Road and Wilson Lane, Battery Park is really a great place to be close to everything that downtown Bethesda has to offer and still have that charming neighborhood feel.

“We were very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Sandy Spring Builders on our home.  Mimi Kress and Phil Leibovitz have put together a great team that was professional, thoughtful, and committed to our success.  We love our home and have really enjoyed our partnership with Sandy Spring.  If we build again, we will definitely use Phil, Mimi and the team at SSB.”
