The galley kitchen takes its name from the kitchens found on ships, called the “galley”. The typical layout has the cabinets, countertops and appliances connected together or facing each other in straight lines. Sometimes ceiling cabinets or hanging racks are used. The intent is to minimize the amount of moving around needed in the kitchen space and is mostly used in smaller spaces or apartments. But even in a larger home, the galley kitchen concept can provide a streamlined design that maximizes storage and efficiency.
