Casita is the Spanish word for “little house”, and is often used to refer to a detached house that serves as a guest house, studio, or home office. They typically have a bedroom, bathroom and small kitchen/kitchenette. They are similar to an in-law suite, but are separate from the main house. An in-law suite on the other hand, is located within the main house – in the lower level, first floor, main bedroom level, or even in the loft. They also would have separate facilities so that the in-laws can be a part of the family, but have their own private domain. With multi-generational living, this is something that will increasingly be found in new or renovated homes. Check out some of the ones built by Sandy Spring Builders.
