When looking to create an interesting or dramatic effect between rooms, using different flooring material can provide just the right effect. If you have a stone or tile foyer, that provides a more formal entry foyer that can then easily transition to wood for the rest of the main level flooring. And sometimes using a design element, like the water feature is shown between a foyer and dining room, can help make that break seem more natural. If you have a large stone or tile in the kitchen, maybe using wood strips between will help create a seamless transition to the wood flooring in the next room. So don’t be afraid to mix materials – it’s a simple way to give the warmth or formality, or whatever aesthetic you are looking for, to your home.
